In the world of DSLR photography, it’s quite easy to achieve stunning image quality on almost any budget. Since the introduction of the first DSLR in 1981, the marketplace has grown substantially and now includes different models for any user’s needs. For today’s purposes, we will be diving into the Canon 6D: the first price-conscious full-frame DSLR offered in Canon’s product line. Here at World Studios, we use a 6D for all of our behind-the-scenes stills, as well as using it as an extra camera on video shoots. We love it, but don’t let us influence your decision. See for yourself why the Canon 6D is a highly renowned camera.
Released in 2012, the Canon 6D came just weeks after Nikon’s reveal of their consumer grade DSLR, the D600. While a decade ago, price tags for full-frame DSLRs could run you up to 8K, the 6D comes in right at $,1400, just under their flagship 5DMKII series. Fans of the 5D series will notice how lightweight the 6D is in comparison, and that alone can be a life-saver on a day long shoot.
The camera is built around Canon’s CMOS sensor, which offers which offers a pixel count of 20.2MP (compared to the Nikon D600 and Sony SLT-A99’s 24MP, and the 5D Mark III’s 22MP). To put this in layman terms, the picture quality of images shot on this camera is extremely high, and comparable to most any other full fame censor DLSR out there today.
One of the camera’s more impressive features is its ability to shoot in low light. For reference, the Canon 6D can shoot in what is basically equivalent to moon-light, making it a better camera for lowlight than the famed 5DMKII. While ideally when using this camera, there would be more light available, it makes for stunning images captured on the go in less than ideal lighting situations.
Other notable features with this camera include WiFi, with the ability to seamlessly (and instantly) transfers images straight from your camera to your smartphone or computer with almost no time lost. For on the go photographers, social media managers, and journalists, this means quicker turnaround times on photos, and less time spent waiting for files to transfer over to a computer to be edited, and then back to the smartphone for posting. With this, you can import and edit directly in your smartphone.
All in all, the Canon 6D is perfect for the budget photographer, novice, or even professional looking for a workhorse camera to add to their arsenal.
